Cher is turning 80 today. To celebrate, here’s a look at a Cher portfolio by Richard Avedon that includes two Vogue patterns.

Avedon’s 14-page Cher editorial appeared in Vogue’s mid-November issue for 1966, which would have hit newsstands not long after she released her third solo album, Chér.

The patterns are Vogue 6985 and Vogue 6969. Cher’s two-piece dress was made in purple, white, and hot pink striped Alamac Orlon jersey. Her A-line coat is orange, white, and hot pink striped Alamac Thal-lined Orlon jersey. Vogue’s editors chose the collarless view C of the coat (illustrated on the pattern envelope in striped, high-gloss vinyl) and adapted it with a fly-front, Velcro closure.

Happy birthday, Cher!
