Soft Holiday Fashions: a Kenzo dress pattern on the cover of the Butterick Home Catalog, Winter 1973.

A red, hooded, designer maxi dress makes the case for “Soft Holiday Fashions” on this festive Butterick home catalogue cover from Winter, 1973.

The same image was used for the cover of the December retail catalogue, and although both covers show only the pattern number, the dress is by Kenzo Takada — at the time, one of the newest additions to the Butterick Young Designer line.

Inside, the caption reads, “On the cover: Butterick 3340. The hooded dress, a soft and beautiful nighttime look by Kenzo. … We think it looks sensational here in a heathery red knit fabric.”

Merry Yule!
