Last New Year’s, I published a special image gallery celebrating 125 years of Vogue patterns, with some new-to-the-blog ‘Patterns in Vogue’ images like Horst’s 1941 portrait of Elsa Schiaparelli, which I posted about in September. This post is about another photo from that image gallery.

Further evidence of the early ’80s black-lace trend: for Vogue’s November 1980 issue, Chris von Wangenheim photographed Gia Carangi and Kim Alexis at a New York City art gallery in black lace blouses made from Vogue patterns. Hosting the photo shoot was the Nancy Hoffman Gallery at its old location in SoHo.

The patterns are Vogue 7797 and Very Easy Vogue 7566. Carangi’s blouse is Dacron polyester lace from Wyla Fabrics with ribbons from Offray; Alexis’ is nylon lace by Emil Katz Co. with silk chiffon lining from Maxine Fabrics, styled with a matching triangular scarf trimmed with lace from Alcor Lace.

Happy New Year, everyone! All the best for 2026.
