In 2022, two decades after featuring the work of Yohji Yamamoto for their first Design Download, SHOWstudio released a second free pattern by the designer: a Y-3 jumpsuit.

The jumpsuit was part of Yamamoto’s Spring 2022 Y-3 collection, Chapter 1, which formed the first instalment of “20 Years: Re-Coded,” celebrating the 20th anniversary of his collaboration with Adidas. (For more, see Adidas’ press release.) In addition to the Y-3 milestone, the Spring 2022 collections also marked 40 years since Yamamoto made his Paris runway debut.

The Y-3 Spring 2022 ad campaign and video feature dancers performing choreography by British multidisciplinary artist Blackhaine. Could this campaign image show the SHOWstudio jumpsuit?

“Fabric is everything. Often I tell my pattern makers, ‘Just listen to the material. What is it going to say? Just wait. Probably the material will tell you something.’”

— Yohji Yamamoto

The pattern download comes in A4 sheets, with a test line to check the scale. A large-format copyshop option is also included.
