To mark the beginning of fall, here’s a Singer “Make-It-Yourself” Wardrobe Plan cover from Fall-Winter 1936. According to the leaflet, rust, green, black, and other autumnal colours like red, copper, wine, brown, and grey were on-trend that season. (The dog shown here is also fashion-forward, appearing some two years before Lassie made collies famous.)

The Singer Sewing Machine Company produced these leaflets to promote their sewing centres; the patterns shown inside were sometimes called “Singer Wardrobe” patterns. I like to imagine the original owner of this copy having folded it for a more portable reference.
