Katarina Witt is 60 today. In 1991, not long after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the East German-born champion figure skater was touring the U.S. with Brian Boitano, and Arthur Elgort photographed her for Vogue in a top and briefs made with Very Easy Vogue patterns.

The patterns are Vogue 7189 and Vogue 7877, an off-the-shoulder, long-sleeved crop top and high-waisted briefs made in stretch-Lycra panne velvet supplied by DuPont. (Hair by Troy Halterman for Oribe at Elizabeth Arden. Makeup by Sonia Kashuk for Aveda.)
